Model 2461 Interactive SourceMeter® Instrument Reference Manual Section 3: Functions and features2461-901-01 A/November 2015 3-77Instrument accessYou can specify that the control interfaces request access before taking control of the instrument.There are several modes of access.You can set one of the following levels of access to the instrument:• Full: Allows full access for all users from all interfaces• Exclusive: Allows access by one remote interface at a time with logins required from otherinterfaces• Protected: Allows access by one remote interface at a time with passwords required on allinterfaces• Lockout: Allows access by one interface (including the front panel) at a time with passwordsrequired on all interfacesThe front panel is read-only when you are using a remote interface. You can view information andswipe screens without being prompted to leave remote mode. If you attempt to make a change fromthe front panel while the instrument is controlled from a remote interface, you will be prompted toenter a password to gain access.When you set access to full, the instrument accepts commands from any interface with no passwordsrequired. You can change interfaces as needed.When you set access to exclusive, you must log out of one remote interface and log into another oneto change interfaces. To use another interface, log out of the present interface before logging into thenew interface. You do not need a password with this access.Protected access is similar to exclusive access, except that you must enter a password when loggingin.When you set access to locked out, a password is required to change interfaces, including the front-panel interface.Changing the instrument access modeTo change the access mode from the front panel:1. Press the MENU key.2. Under System, select Settings. The SYSTEM SETTINGS menu opens.3. Press the button next to Access Mode.4. Select the level of password access control you want to enable.
