Sending an Original 2-7Basic Fax Usage2Sending an OriginalPlace the original in one of the following positions, depending upon the size and type of theoriginal, and mode to be used.■ Platen glassWhen a feeder is not attached, place the original on the platen glass. Place the original onthe platen glass when scanning bound originals, originals of heavy or lightweight paper, ortransparencies.■ FeederPlace a stack of originals in the feeder, and press (Start). The machine automaticallyscans them into memory. You can also automatically reverse a 2-sided original and faxboth sides.Document Sizes Used When SendingThe size of the original is automatically detected, and the document is scanned. However, ifthe output paper in the machine at the receiving end is not equal to the scanned size, theoriginal image is either reduced in size to match the size of the output paper at the receivingend, or is divided into parts before being sent.The machine cannot always detect the size of the original if it is a non-standard size or asolid object, such as a book.In such a case, specify the size at which you want to scan the original.
