The paper with the transferred toner image must be passedthrough the Fuser assembly to fix the toner image to the paper. The toner is melted andbonded to the paper by heat and pressure applied by the Heat Roll and Pressure Roll ofthe Fuser assembly.7. CleaningThis step removes the remaining toner from the drum surface to prepare the drum surfacefor the next cycle. The toner is scraped off the drum surface with the cleaning blade. Figure 9Figure 9 CleaningNOTE: The toner scraped off by the Cleaning step is collected in the used toner compart-ment separate from the fresh toner compartment. The transfer rate is greater than 90%,but varies according to the image coverage and the environmental conditions such astemperature and humidity. Used toner cannot be used again. At the beginning of each printing operation, the whole drum surface is scanned with thelaser light to completely remove any charge on the drum surface remaining from the previ-ous printing operation. At the beginning and end of each consecutive printing operation, a high negative voltageis applied to the BTR to clean the BTR surface by transferring any toner which has stuckto the BTR during the previous printing operation to the drum surface.GP 5.2 Paper TransportationPaper is fed from the Tray for the MBF (Multi Sheet Bypass Feeder) and transported throughthe printer to the exit along the paper path shown below.
