12-5MaintenanceChapter 12MaintenanceCleaning the Scanner ComponentsFollow this procedure to periodically check and clean the scanner components:1 Disconnect the power cord from theFAX.2 Use both hands to gently open theoperation panel.• It only opens partially.3 While holding the operation panelopen, clean these components:❏ Separation guide and separationroller:Wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.❏ White sheet and scanning glass:Wipe with a clean, soft, lint-freecloth moistened with water, thenwipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.4 Clean the underside of the operationpanel (shaded area in the illustration).• Dirt and dust particles that collecton the underside of the operationpanel affect the quality of thedocuments you copy or send.SEPARATIONROLLERSCANNING GLASSWHITE SHEETSEPARATION GUIDENote• If the scanner components aredirty, the documents you send orcopy will also be dirty.• Be sure to use a soft cloth toavoid scratching the components.• Do not use tissue paper, papertowels, or similar materials forcleaning; they can stick to thecomponents or generate staticcharges.
