8-6 Receiving Faxes Chapter 8Setting the Options for Fax/Tel ModeIf you set Fax/Tel Mode, you can control precisely how the FAX handles incomingcalls by adjusting the following settings:– RING START TIME setting: Adjust the time the FAX takes to check whether acall is from a fax machine or from a telephone (default: 8 seconds).– F/T RING TIME setting: Adjust the length of time the FAX rings when the callis from a telephone (default: 22 seconds).– DEFAULT ACTION setting: Set whether the FAX switches to receive mode ordisconnects the call after the ring time set in F/T RING TIME has elapsed(default: switches to receive mode).■ What Happens When Fax/Tel Mode is SelectedWhen the FAX receives a call, it responds according to the type of call as follows:Type of callTelephone chargesbegin for the caller. The FAX answers without ringing.The document isreceived automatically.Pick up the handsetto talk.DISCONNECT(The fax tone isdetected and the FAXswitches to receivemode.)The fax disconnectsthe call.RECEIVE(Default setting)DEFAULT ACTIONChoose between:RECEIVE (default setting) and DISCONNECT.Telephone Fax FaxThe FAX starts ringing.If you don’t pick up the handset(within 22 sec.).The fax tone is not detected.The fax tone isdetected.The FAX listens for the fax tone.(For 8 sec.)RING START TIME(Default setting= 8 sec.)F/T RING TIME(Default setting= 22 sec.Not all fax machines are capable of sending a fax tone.
