12-3MaintenanceChapter 12MaintenanceCleaning the FAX’s InteriorTo prevent toner powder and paper dust from accumulating inside the FAX andaffecting print quality, clean the unit’s print area periodically.Follow this procedure to clean inside the FAX:1 Disconnect the power cord from theFAX.2 Lift the latch and open the front cover.3 Hold the toner cartridge by its handleand remove it from the FAX.• To avoid exposing the tonercartridge to light, place it in itsprotective bag or wrap it in a thickcloth.4 Use a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth toremove any toner or paper debris fromthe unit’s interior (shaded area in theillustration).CautionDo not open the front cover withoutlifting the latch since this maydamage your unit.HANDLEDO NOT TOUCH THEFIXING ASSEMBLYDO NOT TOUCH THE BLACKTRANSFER CHARGING ROLLERCaution• The fixing assembly becomesextremely hot when the unit is inuse. Be very careful not to touch itso as to avoid injury.• Be careful not to touch the blacktransfer charging roller since thisadversely affects print quality.
