6-22 Scanning Chapter 6When you find a combination of tone settings you like, you can save thesettings in a file and use it in future scanning sessions.To adjust the tones using the Histogram tool:1. On the Tone tab, click the Histogram tool button.2. For the black-point, midpoint, or white-point, do one of the followingto make a change:l Click the appropriately labeled button. Then click on the portionof the image in the preview area that is darkest (for black-point),lightest (for white-point), or in the middle of the tonal range (formidpoint). Try zooming in on the specific part of the image soyou can be sure you are selecting the shade you want.l In the appropriately labeled box, enter a tone value.l Drag the appropriate arrow at the bottom of the histogram to thelevel you want.In the preview image, all tones are adjusted accordingly.3. To reset to the default values, click Reset.To save these settings to use on similar images, click Save. In the SaveAs dialog box, specify the file name and location where you want tosave the setting, and click Save.Using Tone CurvesYou can use predefined tone curves to automatically correct the mostcommon problems with images: overexposure, underexposure, or toohigh or too low a contrast.You can also manipulate a curve in the Special Tone Curve graph tocreate your own tone curve.To correct an image problem with predefined tone curves:1. On the Tone tab, click the Special Tone Curves button.
