The DHCPsnooping filters untrusted DHCP messages and maintains a DHCP snooping binding ta-ble. An untrusted message is a message received from outside the network, and an un-trusted interface is an interface configured to receive DHCP messages from outside thenetwork. The DHCP snooping basically permits all the trusted messages received from within thenetwork and filters untrusted messages. In case of untrusted messages, all the bindingentries are recorded in a DHCP snooping binding table. This table contains a hardwareaddress, IP address, lease time, VLAN ID, interface, etc. It also gives you a way to differ-entiate between untrusted interfaces connected to the end-user and trusted interfacesconnected to the DHCP server or another switch.9.7.2.1 Enabling DHCPv6 SnoopingDHCPv6 snooping should be enabled to allow clients to obtain IPv6 addresses from anauthorized DHCPv6 server.
