9-39 SOLUTIONS TO COMMON PROBLEMSPeriodic cleaningYour fax requires little periodic maintenance. This section describes the necessary cleaning procedures forthe fax. Please note the following before cleaning:• Be sure to disconnect the power cord before cleaning the fax. Since documents in memory are erased whenthe power is disconnected, print any documents stored in memory before disconnecting the power cord(see p. 5-14).• Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning; they can stick to the componentsor generate static charges.Cleaning the exterior of the fax ________________Cleaning the interior of the fax ________________K Cleaning inside the printer coverTo prevent ink spots and paper dust from accumulating inside the fax and affecting print quality, clean theprint area of the fax periodically.CautionNever use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to cleanthe interior of the fax.1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax. 2 Wipe the exterior of the fax with a clean,soft, lint-free cloth moistened with wateror diluted dishwashing detergent solution.3 When you are finished, reconnect thepower cord.1 Disconnect the power cord from the fax. 2 Open the printer cover.3 Use a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove any ink or paper debris from the interior ofthe fax (shaded area), especially around the four pinch rollers.Dirt and dust particles that collect on the underside of the printer cover affect the quality of thedocuments you copy or send.Be careful not to touch the BJ cartridge or its holder.CautionDo not touch the components or anymetal parts.Pinch rollers
