1-12 System OverviewSystem FunctionsThe following subsections describe select system functions.Degradation FeatureThe degradation feature automatically isolates a failed DIMM or processor to assurecontinuous operation of the server when the POST (Power On Self-Test, self-diagnosisprogram after power on) detects such a DIMM or processor.Note: The degradation feature is only available when at least fourDIMMs or two processors are installed.Failed DIMMs and processors may be identified by POST displays, or by using theBIOS setup utility (see Chapter 3). They may also be identified on a system that hasESMPRO installed.AC Link ModeThe AC link mode allows the system to monitor its AC input power so that when theAC input power is lost and then restored the system will return itself to one of three pre-selected settings, listed as follows:! Power On! Last State (Factory Default Setting)! Stay Off.The AC link mode settings can be changed by running the BIOS Setup Utility (F2).Refer to Chapter 3 "Configuring Your System."Remote Power-On (Wake ON LAN) FunctionThe remote power-on function turns on the system power by way of a network ormodem. If the system power is set to OFF, it can be turned on remotely by sending aspecific packet from the main computer to the remote system.
