1-2 System OverviewOverviewYour server is a modular, multiprocessing server based on the Intel Xeonmicroprocessor. It is a solid performer and offers the latest technology. Thecombination of compute performance, memory capacity, and integrated I/O provides ahigh performance environment for many server market applications. These range fromlarge corporations supporting remote offices to small companies looking to obtain basicconnectivity capability such as file and print services, e-mail, web access, web siteserver, etc.Your server is a rack-mount system. See Figure 1-1.Your server conveniently installsinto a standard EIA 19-inch rack assembly.Figure 1-1. System Front ViewYour server includes a 3.5-inch diskette drive, a CD-ROM drive, six hot-swap SCSIhard disk drive bays, and a removable media device bay. The hot-swap SCSI hard diskdrive bays support up to six 1.0-inch SCSI hard disk drives that can be swapped in orout of the system without powering it down, if RAID functionality is configured in thesystem.Alternately, your server can be configured to include a 7th SCSI hard disk drive. Thisconfiguration includes a removable media drive bay and seven hot-swap SCSI hard diskdrive bays. The removable media drive bay may be used for installation of a high-speedtape drive. As application requirements increase, you can expand your server with an additionalprocessor, additional memory, add-in boards and peripheral devices: tape devices, andhard disk drives.
