5-14 Problem SolvingError MessagesThis section describes the POST error codes and messages.POST Error Codes and MessagesWhenever a recoverable error occurs during POST, BIOS displays a message on thevideo display screen and causes the speaker to beep as the message appears. BIOS alsoissues a beep code (one long tone followed by two short tones) during POST if thevideo configuration fails or if an external ROM module does not have the correctchecksum. The BIOS indicates errors by writing an error code to the PS/2-standardlogging area in the Extended BIOS Data Area, and by displaying a message on thescreen, which is sometimes preceded by the POST Error Code. The error code will alsobe logged to the Event Logging area.Table 5-1 POST Error Codes and Messages is a list of the error codes and messageswritten at the start of each POST test.
