The document cover ordocument glass is dirty.Clean the document cover or documentglass.Refer to Cleaning the Document Cover andthe Document Glass on page 12-12.The document is atransparency or highlytranslucent medium.When copying highly translucentdocuments, dirt on the document covershows up in the copy. Place a sheet of whitepaper over the document before copying.The document is on coloredor rough paper, or is ablueprint.The paper's background color is beingcopied. Adjust the copy density or imagequality, or specify background suppressionbefore copying.The document is printed onglossy printing paper.Glossy printing paper easily sticks to thedocument glass, and shadows can resembledirt in the copy. Place a transparency ortransparent film under the document beforecopying.Copies are toodark or too light.The copy density adjustmentis not right.Adjust the copy density.Refer to Lighten/Darken on page 5-14.The document is light. Adjust the copy density.Refer to Lighten/Darken on page 5-14.The image quality setting isnot correct for the document.If the copy output of black text is too light,set Original Type to Text.Refer to Original Type on page 5-15.The copy isslightly out ofposition.The paper loaded in the trayis misaligned.Align the paper stack, and load it so that theleading edge of the paper is aligned with thefront corners of the tray.Copies havemissing parts inthem.The paper is damp. Damp paper creates missing parts or unclearcopies. Replace it with paper from anunopened pack.The paper in the tray iscreased or wrinkled.Remove any problematic sheets, or replacethe paper with paper from an unopenedpack.The document has been cut-and-pasted, or is creased.Cut-and-pasted or creased parts of thedocument might not be making propercontact with the document glass. Place astack of white paper on top of the documentto bring it into proper contact with thedocument glass.
