144Chapter 8: Managing Powerwww.gateway.comRecalibrating the batteryIf your notebook unexpectedly goes into Standby mode while you are using itbut the battery charge is not low, you may need to recalibrate your battery.You should also recalibrate the battery periodically to maintain the accuracyof the battery gauge.To recalibrate the battery:1 Disconnect the AC adapter2 Turn on your notebook.3 As soon as it starts and you see a startup screen, press F2. The BIOS Setuputility opens.4 Open the Advanced menu.5 Highlight Smart Battery Calibration, then press E NTER. When prompted, startthe recalibration program.6 After the battery has been fully discharged and your notebook has turneditself off, re-connect the AC adapter and fully recharge your battery.Recharging may take several hours. After the battery finishes recharging,the battery meter displays the accurate battery charge. If the battery meterdoes not show an accurate charge, contact Gateway Technical Support.Important Do not interrupt the battery recalibration process. Ifrecalibration is interrupted, you must start the process overagain.
