33Preparing Recording MediaMenusTable of Contents IndexInserting and Removing an SD Card1 Make sure the ACCESS indicator is off.2 Slide the CARD OPEN switch in the direction of thearrow and open the recording media slot cover.3 Insert the SD card, with the label facing up, all the wayinto the SD card slot until it clicks.• To remove the SD card, push the SD card once to releaseit. When the SD card springs out, pull it all the way out.4 Close the recording media slot cover.• Do not force the cover closed if the SD card is notcorrectly inserted.IMPORTANT• Observe the following precautions while the ACCESS indicator is on or flashing in red. Failure to do so mayresult in permanent data loss.- Do not disconnect the power source or turn off the camcorder.- Do not open the recording media slot cover.• SD cards have front and back sides that are not interchangeable. Inserting an SD card facing the wrongdirection can cause a malfunction of the camcorder. Be sure to insert the SD card as described in theprocedure above.NOTES• SD cards have a physical switch to prevent writing on the card so as to avoid the accidental erasure of thecard’s content. To write-protect the SD card, set the switch to the LOCK position.Initializing the Recording MediaThe first time you use any recording media with this camcorder, initialize it first. You can also initialize a recordingmedia to permanently delete all the data it contains.When initializing an SD card, you can select quick initialization, which clears the file allocation table but does notphysically erase the stored data, or complete initialization, which deletes all data completely.1 Press the MENU button.2 Open the [Initialize /8] submenu.[3 Recording Setup] > [1] > [Initialize /8]3 Touch [ Memory Card] or [8 Memory Card] and then touch[Initialize].• If you are initializing a CFast card, skip to step 5.ACCESS indicator Recording media statusOn or flashing Accessing the recording media.Off A recording media is not inserted orit is not being accessed.Operating modes:ACCESS indicator[3 Recording Setup][1][Initialize /8]
