215Safety Instructions and Handling PrecautionsLong-term storage• Store battery packs in a dry place at temperatures no higher than 30 °C (86 °F).• To extend the battery life of the battery pack, discharge it completely before storing it.• Charge and discharge all your battery packs fully at least once a year.Always attach the battery terminal cover.Do not allow any metal objects to touch the terminals (Figure 1), as this cancause a short circuit and damage the battery pack. Attach the terminal coverwhenever the battery pack is not being used (Figure 2).The battery terminal cover has a [ð]-shaped hole. This is useful when youwish to differentiate between charged and uncharged battery packs. Forexample, with charged battery packs, attach the terminal cover so that the[ð]-shaped hole shows the colored label.Remaining battery timeIf the remaining battery time displayed is not correct, deplete the battery pack completely and then charge it fully.Still, the correct time may not be displayed if a fully charged battery pack is used continuously in hightemperatures or it is left unused for long periods of time. Also, the correct remaining time may not be displayed, depending on the battery life. Use the time shown on the screen as an approximation.SD Card• We recommend backing up the recordings on the SD card onto your computer. Data may be corrupted or lostdue to card defects or exposure to static electricity. Canon shall not be liable for lost or corrupted data.• Do not touch or expose the terminals to dust or dirt.• Do not use SD cards in places subject to strong magnetic fields.• Do not leave SD cards in places subject to high humidity and high temperature.• Do not disassemble, bend, drop, or subject SD cards to shocks and do not expose them to water.• Check the direction before inserting the SD card. Forcing a card into a slot if it is not correctly oriented maydamage the card or the camcorder.• Do not attach any labels or stickers on the SD card.DisposalWhen you delete data on an SD card, only the file allocation table is altered and stored data is not physicallyerased. Take the necessary precautions when you dispose of a card, for example by physically damaging it toprevent the leakage of private data.If you plan to give away the SD card to another person, initialize it first (A 35). Fill the card with unimportantrecordings, and then initialize it again. This makes recovering the original recordings very difficult.Figure 1 Figure 2Back side of thebattery pack UnchargedTerminal cover attachedCharged
