UBI Stand-Alone Concept26EXTERNAL KEYBOARDConnection of an alpha-numeric external keyboard makes theediting of layouts and labels a lot easier, since it relieves you of theencoding of text. If the keyboard is fitted with a display, the printercan be remotely controlled.UBI offers an external keyboard, “UBI External Keyboard”,(article No. 1-200591-00), which is specially adapted for use withthe UBI Stand-Alone printers.The external keyboard can be connected to any serial communica-tion port, provided that the keyboard and communication port areset up for the same communication protocol. The UBI ExternalKeyboard uses RS 232C with baudrate 9600, no parity, 8 bitscharacter length and 2 stop bits.The UBI External Keyboard is power-supplied from the printer.Therefore, the external +5V must be enabled on the port, to whichthe keyboard is connected, see the Technical Description for theprinter model in question.If you have more than one serial communication port and intend toconnect the printer to a personal computer (PC), it is recommendedto reserve the port "uart1:" for the connection of the PC.Please refer to the Technical Description for more information oncommunication.Starting from the Main Stand-Alone menu, proceed as follows:Select Mode1:Run 2:SetSelect the Set Mode by pressing < 2 >.1:Layout 2:Setup3:Transm 4:DateSelect the Transmission option by typing < 3 >.0:Output 1:Input2:Keyb 3:DeviceSelect the Keyboard option by typing < 2 >.Continued!IMPORTANT!Always turn off the powerto the printerwhen fitting or removingthe keyboard cable.Remember:• Connect to RS 232C port only.• Change default setup to 8 bitscharacter length• Enable +5V in printer.
