9-2 Special Features Chapter 9Special DialingDialing Through a SwitchboardA PBX (Private Branch Exchange) is an on-site telephone switchboard. If your machine isconnected through a PBX or other telephone switching system, you will need to dial theoutside line access number first, and then the number of the party you are calling.Entering Pauses in a Fax/Telephone NumberYou may need to enter pauses in a fax/telephone number in the following situations:– When you dial or register an overseas number. The length and position of the pausedepends on the telephone system of your country.– When your machine is connected to a switchboard.Follow this procedure to enter pauses when registering a number for speed dialing:1 When you come to the step thatrequires you to enter the fax/telephonenumber, use the numeric buttons toenter the number up to where a pauseis necessary.• To correct a mistake in the number,press ¬ to delete the rightmost digit.Alternatively, press Clear to delete theentire number.2 Press Pause to enter a pause.• A pause entered within a number (P) istwo seconds long.• For a longer pause, press Pause againfor another two-second pause.Alternatively, you can change the length ofthe pause (1 MID PAUSE SET, p. 14-6).3 Continue entering the rest of the fax/telephone number with the numericbuttons.• If you enter the wrong number, pressClear and start again from step 1.4 To enter a pause at the end of thenumber, press Pause.• A pause at the end of a number (P) isfixed to ten seconds.5 Continue with the operation you areperforming.TEL=011p811234PTEL=011p811234_TEL=011P_TEL=011_
