213. Projecting an Image (Basic Operation)This section describes how to turn on the projector and to project a picture onto the screen. Turning on the ProjectorNOTE:• The projector has two power switches: a main power switch and a POWER (ON/STAND BY) button (POWER ON and OFF on theremote control).• When plugging in or unplugging the supplied power cable, make sure that the main power switch is pushed to the off () po-sition. Failure to do so may cause damage to the projector.• The projector has a feature to prevent itself from being used by unauthorized individuals. To use this feature, register a key-word. (→ page 35)1. Remove the lens cap.• Do not try to remove the lens cap by pulling on thestring. Doing so can cause damage.2. To turn on the main power to the projector, press theMain Power switch to the on position ( I ).The projector will go into standby mode. When in stand-by mode, the POWER indicator will light orange and theSTATUS indicator will light green when [NORMAL] is se-lected for [STANDBY MODE].See the POWER Indicator section.(→ page 86)3. Press the ON/STAND BY button on the projector cab-inet or the POWER ON button on the remote controlfor 1 second.The POWER indicator will turn to green and the projec-tor will become ready to use.NOTE: When the projector is turned on, it may take some timebefore the lamp light becomes bright.TIP:• When the STATUS indicator lights orange, it means that the[CONTROL PANEL LOCK] is turned on. (→ page 67)• When the message “Projector is locked! Enter your pass-word.” is displayed, it means that the [SECURITY] is turnedon. (→ page 36)After you turn on your projector, ensure that the com-puter or video source is turned on and that your lens capis removed.NOTE: When no signal is available, the NEC logo, blue (default),or black screen will be displayed.
