82 Do’s and Don’tsCleaning the Video Heads In the following cases the video headsare dirty and need to be cleaned.- The message “HEADS DIRTY, USECLEANING CASSETTE” appears.- During playback you notice frequentvideo problems (blocky video artifacts,banding, etc.).- When playing back a tape recorded inHDV standard the playback is jerky or thesound stutters on and off.To maintain the best picture quality, werecommend using cassettes designed forhigh definition recording (Canon DigitalVideocassette HDVM-E63PR, etc.) andcleaning the video heads frequently withthe Canon DVM-CL Digital Video HeadCleaning Cassette or a commerciallyavailable dry cleaning cassette. Do not use wet type cleaning cassettesas this may damage the camcorder. Even after cleaning the video headsyou may not be able to play backcorrectly tapes that were recorded withdirty video heads.Cleaning the CamcorderCamcorder Body Use a soft, dry cloth to clean thecamcorder body. Never use chemicallytreated cloth or volatile solvents such aspaint thinner.Lens and Viewfinder If the lens surface is dirty, the autofocusmay not work properly. Remove any dust or dirt particles usinga non-aerosol type blower brush. Use a clean, soft lens-cleaning cloth togently wipe the lens or viewfinder. Neveruse tissue paper.LCD Screen and I.AF sensor Clean the LCD screen and the I.AFsensor using a clean, soft lens-cleaningcloth. Condensation may form on the surfaceof the screen when the temperaturechanges suddenly. Wipe it with a soft drycloth.Storage If you do not intend to use thecamcorder for a long time, store it in aplace free of dust, in low humidity, and attemperatures not higher than 30 °C(86 °F).CondensationMoving the camcorder rapidly betweenhot and cold temperatures may causecondensation (water droplets) to form onits internal surfaces.
