Connecting to a TV or VCR60Recording to a VCR or Digital VideoRecorderYou can copy your recordings byconnecting the camcorder to a VCR or adigital video device. When recording to adigital video recorder using the HDV/DVterminal, you can copy recordings withvirtually no generation loss in video andsound quality.Connect the camcorder to the externaldevice following one of the connectiondiagrams shown in the previous sectionConnection Diagrams ( 57).POINTS TO CHECKChange the following settings asnecessary before making theconnections. Refer to the correspondingexplanation of each setting in thePLAY/OUT SETUP menu option list( 34).- [PLAYBACK STD] to select the output videostandard.- [DV OUTPUT] to select the standard of theoutput video when using connection type .Note that the video standard of the recordedcopy depends also on the standards supportedby the external digital device. Refer to the tablebelow.ConnectingConnect the camcorder to a VCR or otheranalog device using connection type ,or to a DVD recorder or other digitalrecording device using connection type, as shown in the previous sectionConnection Diagrams ( 57).Recording1 This camcorder: Load the recordedcassette.2 Connected device: Load a blankcassette or disc and set the deviceto record pause mode.3 This camcorder: Locate the sceneyou wish to copy and pause theplayback shortly before the scene.4 This camcorder: Resume the movieplayback.• When the connection is recognized“ HDV/DV” will be displayed. Whenthe video output starts the display willchange to “ HDV-OUT” or “ DV-OUT” depending on the originalrecording and the settings selected.• When using an analog connectionyou can include in the copy also thedate, time and data code of the originalrecording. Repeatedly press tochange the on-screen display ( 50).5 Connected device: Begin recordingwhen the scene you wish to copyappears.
