A DV cable (commercially available). Video Editing Software. The appropriate driverThe standard of the video transferreddepends on the standard of the originalrecording and the compatibility of thevideo editing software.When transferring a video originallyrecorded in HDV standard, if the editingsoftware supports high definition video,the video transferred will be in HDVstandard too. If the editing software doesnot support high definition video, even ifthe original recording was made in HDVstandard, the video transferred will be inDV standard.POINTS TO CHECKChange the following settings as necessarybefore making the connections. Refer to thecorresponding explanation of each setting in thePLAY/OUT SETUP menu option list( 34).- [PLAYBACK STD] and [DV OUTPUT] toselect the standard of the output video. Notethat the video standard of the transferred videodepends also on the standards supported bythe editing software.- [AV DV] to select whether to transferrecordings from the tape in the camcorder (setto [ OFF]) or video converted from anexternal analog source (set to [ ON]).Connecting1 Start the computer.2 Set the camcorder tomode.3 Connect the camcorder to thecomputer using the digitalconnection –connection type( 64)– shown in the previoussection PC Connection Diagrams.When the connection is recognized“ HDV/DV” will be displayed. Whenthe video output starts the display willchange to “ HDV-OUT” or “ DV-OUT” depending on the originalrecording and the settings selected.4 Start the video editing software.Refer to the instruction manual of theediting software.IMPORTANT The video transfer may not work correctlydepending on the software and thespecifications/settings of your computer. If the computer freezes while the camcorderis connected to it, disconnect the DV cable andturn off the camcorder and the computer. After ashort while, turn them on again, set thecamcorder to mode and restore theconnection. Before connecting the camcorder to thecomputer using a DV cable, make sure that thecamcorder and computer are not connectedwith a USB cable, and that no other IEEE1394device is connected to the computer. Depending on the video editing software, youmay need to set the POWER switch of thecamcorder to a mode other than PLAY. Refer tothe instruction manual of the editing software.NOTES We recommend powering the camcorderusing the compact power adapter. Refer also to the instruction manual of thecomputer. The programs ZoomBrowser EX and ImageBrowser included with the supplied CD-ROMcan only be used to transfer still imagesrecorded on the memory card. Video recordingson the tape cannot be transferred to thecomputer using the software included with thesupplied CD-ROM.2
