17Using your RangeConventional oven (top andbase heat)This function combines the heat from the topand base elements. It is particularly suitable forroasting and baking pastry, cakes and biscuits.Food cooked on the top rack will brown andcrisp faster than on the lower rack, because theheat is greater at the top of the oven than at thebase, as in ‘Convection assisted oven’ function.Similar items being cooked will need to beswapped around for even cooking. This meansthat foods requiring different temperatures canbe cooked together, using the cooler zone in thelower half of the oven and hotter area to the top.Browning elementThis function uses the element in the top of theoven only. It is a useful function for the browningor finishing of pasta dishes, vegetables in sauceand lasagne, the item to be browned beingalready hot before switching to the top element.Base heatThis function uses the base element only. It willcrisp up your pizza or quiche base or finish offcooking the base of a pastry case on a lowerrack. It is also a gentle heat, good for slowcooking of casseroles in the middle of the ovenor for plate warming.The Browning and Base heat functions areuseful additions to your oven, giving youfl exibility to finish off items to perfection. Withuse, you will soon realize how these functionscan combine to extend your cooking skills.HandyrackThe maximum weight than can be held by theHandyrack is 12lb (5.5kg). It should only be usedwith the supplied meat tin, which is designedto fit the Handyrack. Any other vessel could beunstable. The base of the meat tin is shapedto ease the draining of fat from the meat. Don’tplace the item to be cooked on a raised grid orrack in the tin as it may be unstable.The Handyrack fits on the oven door. Foodcooking on it is easy to attend to, because it’saccessible when the door is open. It can be fittedat two different heights. One of the oven racksmust be removed and the other positioned tosuit.When the Handyrack is used in its highestposition, other dishes can be cooked on thebottom shelf position of the oven.When the Handyrack is used in its lowestposition, other dishes can be cooked on thesecond rack position of the oven.To fi t the Handyrack,locate one side of iton the door bracket.Then spring theother side out toclip it onto the otherbracket.
