10Using your RangeCooktop BurnersThe drawing by each knob indicates which burner thatknob controls. Each burner has a special safety devicethat stops the flow of gas if the flame goes out.Push in and turn a knob to the ( ) lighting position.Keep holding the knob pressed in to let the gas throughto the burner for few seconds. The igniter should sparkand light the gas.If, when you let go of the control knob, the burner goesout, the safety device has not held in. Turn the controlto the off position and wait one minute, then try againthis time holding in the control knob for slightly longer.Adjust the flame height to suit by turning the knob. Onthis range the low position is beyond high, not betweenhigh and off. The ‘LO’ marks the low position. Turn theknob towards it after the contents of a pan have boiled.Make sure flames are under the pans. For safetyreasons, adjust the flames so that they do not extendbeyond the edge of the cooking utensil. This instructionis based on safety considerations.Pans and kettles with concave bases or down turnedbase rims should not be used.Simmering aids, such as asbestos or mesh mats,are NOT recommended. They will reduce burnerperformance and could damage the grates.Avoid using unstable and misshapen pans that maytilt easily and pans with a very small base diametere.g. milk pans, single egg poachers. The minimum pandiameter recommended is 43/4 ”.The Wok burners are designed to provide even heatover a large area. They are ideal for large pans andstir frying. When using large pans ensure that thepan does not over hang the edge of the cooktop. Forheating smaller pans the smaller burners may be moreeffi cient.When a cooktop burner knob is pressed in,sparks will be made at every burner, this isnormal.If after lighting, a cooktop burner’s flame goesout, turn it off and leave it for one minute beforerelighting it.Igniting Cooktop Burners without ElectricityIf there is a power failure, the cooktop burnerscan be lit with a match.1. Hold a burning a match ½ inch from theburner head keeping your hand as farhorizontally away from the burner as possible.2. Push and turn burner control knob to HI/lighting position. As soon as the burner flamelights move your hand away. With your otherhand, keep holding the knob pressed for a fewseconds so that the burner safety device can‘sense’ the heat of the flame.
