83Instruments and controlsWipers and washersWindscreen wipersPosition 1 is a spring-loaded position thatwill produce a single sweep of the wipers.Set the delay period for intermittent wipingusing the thumb wheel on the stalk switch.There are 5 delay periods from which tochoose, ranging from 2 to 15 seconds.The wipers always return to their homeposition when the ignition is turned off.To leave the wipers positioned vertically onthe windscreen, proceed as follows:1 Switch off the engine and remove theremote control.2 Activate the wipers within the next16 seconds by pressing the stalkswitch down.The next time the ignition is turned on, thestalk switch must be pressed down once sothat the wipers return to their home position.Changing wiper blades, see page 188.WashersActivate the washers by pulling the stalkswitch towards the steering wheel.When the washers are operated, the wiperswill make 3, 4 or 5 sweeps, depending onhow long the washers were kept on. Ifthe speed of the car is less than 12 mph(20 km/h), the wipers will make an addi-tional sweep after roughly 8 seconds.If the amount of fluid is less than 1 litre,headlight washing 3 is not activated as ameans of prioritizing washing of the wind-screen.
