175Car careEngineTurbo petrol engine, 4-cylThe engine is a transverse, four-cylinder,in-line engine with dual overhead camshaftand 16 valves. The engine block and cyl-inder head are made of aluminium.The engine is equipped with two balancershafts that reduce engine vibrations to aminimum.The balance shafts are chain driven androtate at twice the speed of the crankshaft.They produce forces and torques that areopposed to those generated by the pistonsand connecting rods, an effect that occurstwice for each revolution of the engine.Engine noise is therefore also reduced asthe counter-rotating shafts counteract thevibration from the moving parts of theengine.The gearbox, located on the left-hand sideof the engine, is integrated with the engine.Turbo petrol engine, V6 3The V6 engine is a turbo charged V6engine. The engine block and cylinder headare made of aluminium with 60° betweenthe cylinder banks, 4 valves per cylinder and2 camshafts per bank.The camshafts are driven via a chain trans-mission. The engine is equipped with aturbo whose turbine collects exhaust pres-sure from both banks of cylinders.To obtain optimum performance, fuel con-sumption and low emission levels theengine is equipped with CVCP (ContinuousVariable Cam Phasing). This means thatthe engine’s intake camshafts can beadjusted to achieve optimum functionality.The switches are hydraulic.Diesel engine 3The diesel engine is a transverse, four-cylinder, in-line engine.
