133Starting and drivingRefuelling Only use fuel grades from a well-known oilcompany. All Cadillac petrol engines can be drivenon petrol with an octane rating between91 RON and 98 RON (RON = ResearchOctane Number). The engine management system monitorsthe combustion and automatically adapts tothe fuel used.Always use the correct grade of fuel:unleaded 91–98 RON.For optimum performance we recommend:• RON 95 for 4-cyl. petrol engines.• RON 98 for 2.8 V6.• E85 for cars adapted to run on E85E85 fuel must fulfil the CWA 15293 orSS 155480 standard.• Diesel fuel for diesel engines.Diesel engines must be run on diesel fuelthat fulfils the EN590 European standard.Sometimes, petrol can contain a number ofadditives containing oxygen. The mostcommon of these are alcohol or some typeof ether. The maximum oxygen level isrestricted by national regulations. If fuel containing a mixture of alcohol isused, the maximum levels approved byCadillac are: 5% by volume of methanol;or 10% by volume of ethanol. The mostcommon type of ether used is MTBE(methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether), of which fuelmay contain a maximum of 15% by volume. The fuel filler cap is located in the right-handrear wing.WARNINGPetrol fumes are highly explosive. Beartherefore in mind:• Never smoke while refuelling.• Never use petrol for any purposeother than as fuel for your car.• Petrol is extremely flammable and cancause severe burns. No naked flamesnear petrol.• Do not use a mobile phone at thesame time as refuelling.• If the car has a fuel-driven heater, thismust be turned off for refuelling.NOTICE• Do not overfill. Fuel should not comeright up the filler pipe as room forexpansion is needed for when thetemperature rises.• The use of fuel with too low an octanerating can cause serious enginedamage.460_OM_MY09.book Page 133 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM
