136 Starting and drivingWater in fuel 3The fuel passes through a filter on its wayfrom the tank to the engine. The filter trapsany water in the fuel. When there is anexcessive amount of water in the filter, thefollowing message appears in DIC:Contact a workshop to have the problemremedied. We recommend that you contactan authorised Cadillac workshop.If you run out of fuelIf your diesel-engined car runs out of fuel,proceed as follows:• Put in at least 5 litres of fuel. More isrequired if the car is on a tilt.• Start the engine as usual.• Do not touch the accelerator.Filling a fuel tankWater in fuel.Contact service.NOTICEDo not run the starter motor for an unnec-essarily long time if there is no fuel in thetank. This could otherwise damage thehigh-pressure pump.WARNINGNever fill a fuel can that is standing in thecar. Static electricity from the can couldignite the petrol fumes. This can causesevere burns and damage to the car. Toavoid this happening:• only use an approved fuel can• never fill the fuel can while it isstanding in the car, in the luggagecompartment or any other surfacethan the ground• make sure that the pump nozzletouches the can’s filler orifice beforestarting to fill it.
