AppendicesInstallation Manual 155A7 FTP File TransfersAlthough the Maintenance Console Software provides file transfer tools, it is sometimesquicker to upload and download files over a network connection using the KX-TDA0480's FTPfile transfer capabilities. This is especially true when updating a IP Gateway network's internalDNS settings.DNS.DATThe KX-TDA0480's DNS.DAT file can be uploaded and downloaded using an FTPconnection.*1 Since the DNS.DAT file must be common to the KX-TDA0480 in a network, thistechnique can be very useful.A DNS.DAT file can be downloaded from a unit and then edited manually for a configurationupdate.An updated DNS .DAT file created and saved either manually or with the Maintenance ConsoleSoftware, can be uploaded to units in the network.OFDD.VHOThe KX-TDA0480's OFDD.VHO file can be uploaded and downloaded using an FTPconnection. This capability may be useful when manually configuring a large number of units.In this case, experienced installers can download a OFDD.VHO file, manually edit itsconfiguration parameters for another unit, and then upload the new configuration file to thenew unit.A OFDD.VHO file can be downloaded from a unit and then edited manually.A manually edited OFDD.VHO file created and saved either manually or with the MaintenanceConsole Software, can be uploaded to a unit in the network.WARNINGThe commands discussed in the following procedures are CASE SENSITIVE. Please becareful to use the proper case when entering FTP commands and the KX-TDA0480 filenames.FTP LoginUse the following procedure to initiate an FTP session with the KX-TDA0480. *21. Use the Windows Start menu Run command to display the Run dialogue box.*1 The file transfer functions require that the filename DNS.DAT be used. The KX-TDA0480 only recognised this filename.*2 The same commands described in this procedure (beginning with step 3) and the following two procedures apply when runningan FTP session that is started using the MCS Terminal Mode FTP Access menu item.
