Appendices142 Installation ManualA3 DNS ConfigurationA3.1 KX-TDA0480 DNS FunctionsThe function of a DNS system in the KX-TDA0480 network is to provide telephone numberto IP Address translations when an H.323 Gatekeeper is not used. The KX-TDA0480 is able to use DNS information from internal DNS Database (limit of up to511 units in the Network)The KX-TDA0480 Internal DNS Database file (DNS.DAT) is located in the directory 3.1 /VHUB/ETC within each unit. This information is common to all units in the network and isused to set IP Gateway network "priority connections". Since the internal DNS informationresides autonomously in each KX-TDA0480, it is necessary to update every unit's DNSconfiguration file whenever the network configuration is changed.A3.2 KX-TDA0480 Internal DNS DatabaseThe internal DNS.DAT file is a simple text based database file. Each line in the file is a recordcontaining number translation information for the KX-TDA0480 in a network sharing the samedomain.Within each record, fields are identified by a single letter. Following each field identifier, thefield values are recorded. The fields in the DNS.DAT file are:N = Called Unit Code (KX-TDA0480 Office Code).R = Remaining digits to be dialled in order to complete a connection.
