Controls / FeaturesOptional Instrument Panel Gauge Cluster CompassCalibration ProcedureAll new vehicles with an optional compass must have an initialcompass calibration performed. A compass calibration may ormay not have been completed at the vehicle assembly plant. If the compass headings are noticeably incorrect, or becomenoticeably incorrect, or the NO CAL message is displayed, theDeclination Zone may need to be reset to agree with the currentgeographic location, or the Compass Directional Calibration willneed to be recalibrated. The compass direction is displayed in the lower left Quadrant(quadrant 3) of the instrument panel gauge cluster displayjust below the outdoor temperature reading. Text messagesnecessary to calibrate the compass can be found in theinstrument panel gauge cluster display in the lower rightQuadrant (quadrant 2) of the display. Twist the instrumentpanel gauge cluster display knob until the cursor is flashing inthe lower right quadrant. Press the instrument panel gaugecluster display knob until the desired text message is displayed.Compass Calibration related text messages include CalibrateCompass, Compass Declination, Declination Zone #, and EndCalibration.NOTE: The Declination Zone for the location where theCompassCalibrationprocedureisbeingperformedmustbeset first, and thereafter the Compass Directional Calibrationprocedure can be performed. Both procedures are listedon the following pages and must be followed exactly toensure proper calibration of the compass.Compass Declination Zone Set ProcedureThe Declination Zone number is used to account for theerrors between magnetic North and true North in the vehicle’sgeographic operating area, and must be set correctly for thecompass to display accurate headings.NOTE: When calibrating / recalibrating the compass, youmust select the Declination Zone that corresponds to thegeographic location where the compass calibration is beingperformed. It can be reset later to match the Declinationzone where the vehicle will be operating. For vehicles that regularly operate coast to coast or in severaldifferent Declination Zones, either choose a Declination Zone inthe geographic center of the vehicle’s operating area, or changethe Declination Zone daily to match the present DeclinationZone.TobegintheDeclinationZonesetprocedure, thevehiclemustbestopped with ignition key ON. Refer to Zone Map for determiningthe proper Declination Zone number.61
