Maintenance InstructionsThe optional SmartWave® Tire Pressure Monitoring System(TPMS) warns the driver that tire pressure is below set pressure.Air pressure sensors are installed on the inner rim of eachwheel. The standard user interface is a round display locatedin the center instrument panel. If the vehicle is equipped withthe optional Electronic Vehicle Monitoring Driver InformationDisplay (DID), the DID will act as the user interface and theround SmartWave® display is not provided. Refer to the DriverInformation Display operator reference card, supplied in thevehicle, for product information.InspectionCheck condition of tires for abnormal wear patterns and properinflation pressures. Cut or broken tire casings must be repairedor replaced.Tires should be inspected for the following conditions. If any arepresent, the tire should be removed and repaired, retreaded, orscrapped as the condition indicates.• Any blister, bump, or raised portion anywhere on thesurface of the tire tread or sidewall (other than a bumpmade by a repair). These indicate the start of internalseparation.• Any cut that reaches to the belt or ply cords or any cutthat is large enough to grow in size and depth.• Any nail or puncturing object.• If any stone or object is held by a tread groove and isstarting to drill into the tread base, remove the object.Proper tire inflation, toe-in adjustment, loads, and roadspeeds are important factors governing tire life, steering ease, maneuverability, fuel economy, and ride quality.LoadsWARNINGTo prevent property damage, personal injury, and/ or death, do not load tires beyond their ratedcapacity as this decreases tire life, requiringmore frequent replacement of tires. Overloadingcreates an unsafe condition that may result insudden air loss from a tire failure resulting in anaccident.NOTE: The load rating of the tires installed on your vehicleat the time of your vehicle’s production is at or in excessof the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) generally foundon a label on the B-pillar of your vehicle. When replacingtires, be sure that the replacement tire load rating (listedseparately in pounds and kilograms on the tire sidewallfor single or dual applications) multiplied by the numberof tires on that axle is equal to or higher than the specificlisted Steer Axle or Drive Axle GAWR. Failure to do so willadversely affect maximum load-carrying capacity. Tireswith the same size specification do not always have thesame load specification.238
