Follow precautions listed below.WARNINGTo prevent property damage, personal injury,and / or death, always check and maintainbrakes in proper condition and adjustment.Out-of-adjustment brakes could cause reducedbraking ability.All new International® vehicles use non-asbestos brake linings.However, exposure to excessive amounts of brake material dustmay be a potentially serious health hazard.Follow these precautions:• Always wear a respirator approved by National Institute ofOccupational Studies of Health (NIOSH) or Mine SafetyandAppliance(MSA)duringallbrakeserviceprocedures.Wear the respirator from removal of the wheels throughassembly.• Never use compressed air or dry brushing to clean brakeparts or assemblies.• Clean brake parts and assemblies in the open air. Duringdisassembly, carefully place all parts on the floor toavoid getting dust into the air. Use an industrial vacuumcleaner with a HEPA filter system to clean dust from thebrake drums, backing plates, and other brake parts. Afterusing the vacuum, remove any remaining dust with a ragsoaked in water and wrung until nearly dry.• Never use compressed air or dry sweeping to cleanthe work area. Use an industrial vacuum cleaner with aHEPA filter system and rags soaked in water and wrunguntil nearly dry. Dispose of used rags with care to avoidgetting dust into the air. Use an approved respirator whenemptying vacuum cleaners and handling used rags.• Worker cleanup. Wash your hands before eating,drinking, or smoking. Vacuum your work clothes afteruse and then launder them separately, without shakingthem, to prevent fiber dust from getting into the air.Air BrakesInspection and AdjustmentWARNINGTo prevent property damage, personal injury,and / or death, always install wheel chocks whenmanually releasing the spring brakes, or thevehicle could roll.208
