OperationWhen the transmission is in manual mode, engine protectionupshifts are disabled. This could result in an undesirable engineoverspeed condition. It is the operator’s responsibility to preventmechanical damage to the truck. Under these conditions, useservice brakes and select the appropriate gear, as required, tokeep the engine RPM within operating limits.Engine FeaturesThe engines are electronically controlled diesel engines. Theengine Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors and controls theinjection process and other engine functions. The ECM alsocommunicates with the Body Controller (BC) and alerts it toout-of-range operating conditions. The BC, in turn, generatesengine function indicators and warning indicators. Since manyof the engine performance features are owner selectable andelectronically programmable, some of the operating parameterswill vary from vehicle to vehicle. Some of these standard andoptional monitored engine operating functions and warningindicators include:Some Standard Features:• Engine Warm-Up Control (ECM) – Adjusts injectoroperation as required.• Cold Ambient Protection (CAP) – Aids engine warm upand maintains engine temperature.• Cruise Control – Provides vehicle speed control.152
