Initializing the GPS ReceiverThe first time you turn on your GPSMAP 60Cx, theGPS receiver must collect satellite data and establishits current location. To ensure proper initialization,the GPSMAP 60Cx is shipped from the factory inAutoLocate mode, which allows the receiver to “finditself” anywhere on Earth. To receive satellite signals,you must be outdoors and have a clear view of the sky.To initialize your GPSMAP 60Cx:1. Press and hold the POWER key to turn on theGPSMAP 60Cx.2. Hold the unit in front of you with the top tiltedupward. While the GPS receiver is searchingfor the satellite signals, a “Locating Satellites”message is replaced by an “AcquiringSatellites” message until enough signals areacquired to fix its location.When the receiver has signals from at leastthree satellites, the display at the top of thepage changes to indicate position accuracyand location coordinates.3. Press and release the PAGE key until the MapPage appears. You are now ready to beginGPS-aided navigation.You can also observe a sky-view array of the satellitesoverhead with your location centered in the array. Theouter circle represents the horizon and the inner circlerepresents a position 45 degrees from the horizon. Thenumbers shown indicate the number assigned to eachsatellite. A bar graph at the bottom of the page showsthe strength of signals from each satellite.Signal strengthbars for eachsatellite.The outercirclerepresentsthe horizon.The innercircle is alocation 45degrees fromthe horizon.Heading bugindicates yourdirection ofmovementIf the unit cannot get a satellite fix, a list of solutionsappears.
