25Repeat playbackSetting the BEGIN and END points1 Press the MENU button.2 Select menu item No. 161 CTL (TC) BGN or No. 162END, and tilt the joystick right/left while pressing theSEARCH button.By operating the joystick, the user can choose whetheror not to set the BEGIN and END points. “--:--:--:--”appears on the display when the points are not set. Ifrepeat playback is initiated in this state, the tape start willserve as the BEGIN point, and the tape end will serve asthe END point.3 Press the joystick while the setting is displayed. Thechanged digits flash on the display.4 Select TC or CTL using the COUNTER button.5 Incline the joystick to the left or right, and select the digitsto change (flashing).The frame digits cannot be selected. “00” is alwaysdisplayed for these digits.When the joystick is now inclined upward or downward,the value of the digits changes.The counter display is reset to 00:00:00:00 when theRESET button is pressed.6 After the settings have been completed, press thejoystick.7 Press the MENU button.The settings for the BEGIN and END points are not stored inuser default. Even if the factory settings and/or the userdefaults are loaded, the settings for the BEGIN and ENDpoints are not revised. For user defaults, refer to “Setup(initial settings)” (page 27).Setting the repeat playback mode1 Press the MENU button.2 Select menu item No.160 MEMORY MODE, and selectthe repeat playback mode.3 Press the MENU button.A confirmation screen now appears. The settings arestored in the memory if the PLAY button is now pressed.z The picture quality deteriorates when repeat playback isinitiated for the same tape over and over again. As ageneral rule of thumb, replace the tape with a new oneafter playing back the tape for about 100 times.z The output images to be displayed while the tape is beingrewound to the BEGIN point in the repeat playback modecan be set using menu item No.163 REPT MODE.If “FREEZE” is selected as the REPT MODE setting andthe tape end has been set as the END point, the playbackimage will not be frozen properly. Set the END point at aplace on the tape where images have been recorded.z If the counter display mode (TC or CTL), which wasestablished when menu item No.161 CTL (TC) BGN andNo.162 END were set, is different from the counter displaymode (TC or CTL) in which repeat playback is to beinitiated, the repeat lamp flashes, and the repeat playbackoperation cannot be performed.z When consumer-use DV and DVCAM tapes are used, therepeat playback mode is disabled.Item setting Description of operationOFF Normal operationM-STOPWhen the tape is fast forwarded orrewound, it stops near the BEGINpoint.REPT1When the tape is played as far as theEND point, it is rewound to the BEGINpoint where it stops.CONTWhen the tape is played as far as theEND point, it is rewound to the BEGINpoint and played, and this sequence ofoperations is repeated.
