For best securitypractices, if SNMP is not needed for your network, it is recommended that youdisable these functions prior to connecting the switch to the network. To access the SNMP agent on the G8264, the read and write community strings onthe SNMP manager must be configured to match those on the switch. The defaultread community string on the switch is public and the default write communitystring is private. The read and write community strings on the switch can be configured using thefollowing commands:The SNMP manager must be able to reach any one of the IP interfaces on theswitch. For the SNMP manager to receive the SNMPv1 traps sent out by the SNMP agenton the switch, configure the trap host on the switch with the following commands:To restrict SNMP access to specific IPv4 subnets, use the following commands:For IPv6 networks, use:Note: Subnets allowed for SNMP read‐only access must not overlap with subnetsallowed for SNMP read‐write access. For more information on SNMP usage and configuration, see Chapter 41, “SimpleNetwork Management Protocol.”RS G8264(config)# snmp server read community <1‐32 characters>‐and‐RS G8264(config)# snmp server write community <1‐32 characters>RS G8264(config)# snmp server trap source source IP interface>RS G8264(config)# snmp server host address> host community string>RS G8264(config)# access management network address> mask> snmp ro‐and‐RS G8264(config)# access management network address> mask> snmp rwRS G8264(config)# access management network6 address> prefix length>snmp ro‐and‐RS G8264(config)# access management network6 address> prefix length>snmp rw
