34 G8264 Application Guide for ENOS 8.4Administration InterfacesEnterprise NOS provides a variety of user‐interfaces for administration. Theseinterfaces vary in character and in the methods used to access them: some aretext‐based, and some are graphical; some are available by default, and somerequire configuration; some can be accessed by local connection to the switch, andothers are accessed remotely using various client applications. For example,administration can be performed using any of the following: A built‐in, text‐based command‐line interface and menu system for access viaserial‐port connection or an optional Telnet or SSH session The built‐in Browser‐Based Interface (BBI) available using a standardweb‐browser SNMP support for access through network management software such as IBMDirector or HP OpenViewThe specific interface chosen for an administrative session depends on userpreferences, as well as the switch configuration and the available client tools.In all cases, administration requires that the switch hardware is properly installedand turned on. (see the Lenovo RackSwitch G8264 Installation Guide).Command Line InterfaceThe Industry Standard Command Line Interface (ISCLI) provides a simple, directmethod for switch administration. Using a basic terminal, you can issuecommands that allow you to view detailed information and statistics about theswitch, and to perform any necessary configuration and switch softwaremaintenance.You can establish a connection to the ISCLI in any of the following ways: Serial connection via the serial port on the G8264 (this option is always available) Telnet connection over the network SSH connection over the network
