Operation Mode PageThe first setup page is the ‘Operation’ mode page,which is used to select the operating mode and set an ini-tial position reference for initialization or simulator use.The GPS 92 features two operating modes:•Normal operates the unit at maximum perfor-mance, and provides battery life of up to 24 hours.•Simulator allows you to operate the unit withoutacquiring satellites, and is ideal for practicing orentering waypoints and routes while at home.To select an operating mode:1. Highlight the ‘Current Mode’ field and press E.2. Use the arrow keypad to choose a mode and pressE.3. The ‘Ref’ field will then be highlighted to enable entry ofa reference waypoint, if desired. Press Q to finish.Initial Position EntryThe initial position field allows you to define a start-ing point for simulated trips or name an initial position tospeed up the acquisition process if the unit has movedmore than 500 miles with the power off. When the unitis in simulator mode, you may select a known waypointas your starting position, or define a distance and bearingfrom a known waypoint to calculate your starting latitudeand longitude.When the unit is in normal mode, the bearing anddistance fields will not be available. Keep in mind thatwhile entering an initial position may speed up acquisi-tion, entering an incorrect initial position will have anadverse effect on the receiver’s ability to find the neces-sary satellites to calculate an accurate position.To enter an initial position reference:1. Highlight the ‘Ref’ field.2.
