Checking the Life of the Photosensitive DrumThe DC controller PCB makes a check to find out from the data in the drum cartridgememory whether the photosensitive drum has exceeded its life. The life data is stored in the drum cartridge memory, and the DC controller updatesthe data at such times as programmed. When the data indicates a specific value, the DCcontroller PCB judges the fact as the end of the life of the photosensitive drum, and warnsthe reader controller PCB of the fact and, at the same time, writes the data to the drumcartridge memory. The machine remains capable of making prints even after the warning has beenissued. The DC controller PCB, however, starts to count imaging pages, and will identifythe end of the life of the photosensitive drum when the count reaches a specific value, upon which it will stop the copier and communicates the fact to the printer board*1.*1 Reader controller PCB (when making prints with the reader unit installed).Reference:Service mode DISPLAY0: normal1: end of life warning 12: end of life warning 24: drum cartridge memory errorE814: stops the machine at the end of life.If the reader unit is installed, checks may be made by selecting COPIER>DISPLAY>SENSOR>DRUMLIFE in service mode.Reference:The term “imaging pages” means the number of images (Y, M, C, or Bk) written on thephotosensitive drum. For example, in the case of a 4-full-color print, the count is incre-mented by ‘4’; in the case of a mono-color print (Y, M, C, or Bk), it is incremented by‘1’.CHAPTER 4 IMAGE FORMATION SYSTEM4-8Download free service manual at http://printer1.blogspot.com
