Be sure to clear ice and snow from the wiper bladesbefore using them. If they are frozen to the windshield, carefully loosen or thaw them. If the blades dobecome damaged, get new blades or blade inserts.Heavy snow or ice can overload the wiper motor.A circuit breaker will stop the motor until it cools. Clearaway snow or ice to prevent an overload.Your vehicle is equipped with wiper-activated headlamps. After the windshield wipers have been on forapproximately six seconds, the headlamps willautomatically turn on. See Wiper Activated Headlampsunder Exterior Lamps on page 3-16 for more information.Rainsense™ II WipersIf your vehicle has this feature, the moisture sensor ismounted on the interior side of the windshield behind therearview mirror. It is used to automatically operate thewipers by monitoring the amount of moisture build-up onthe windshield. Wipes occur as needed to clear thewindshield depending on driving conditions and thesensitivity setting. In light rain or snow, fewer wipes willoccur. In heavy rain or snow, wipes will occur morefrequently. The Rainsense™ wipers operate in a delaymode as well as a continuous low or high speed asneeded. If the system is left on for long periods of time, occasional wipes may occur without any moisture on thewindshield. This is normal and indicates that theRainsense™ system is activated. The Rainsense™ system can be activated by turning thewiper band to one of the five sensitivity levels indicatedon the wiper stalk. The position closest to OFF is thelowest sensitivity setting, level one. This allows more rainor snow to collect on the windshield between wipes.Turning the wiper band away from you to highersensitivity levels increases the sensitivity of the systemand frequency of wipes. The highest sensitivity setting, level five is closest to LO. A single wipe will occur eachtime you turn the wiper stalk to a higher sensitivity level toindicate that the sensitivity level has been increased.Notice: Going through an automatic car wash withthe wipers on can damage them. Turn the wipersoff when going through an automatic car wash. The MIST and wash cycles operate as normal and arenot affected by the Rainsense™ function. TheRainsense™ system can be overridden at any time bymanually turning the wiper band to LO or HI speed. When Rainsense™ is active, the headlamps will turn onautomatically. The headlamps will turn off again once thewipers turn off if it is light enough outside. If it is dark, theywill remain on. See “ Wiper-Activated Headlamps” underExterior Lamps on page 3-16 for more information.Notice: Do not place stickers or other items on theexterior glass surface directly in front of themoisture sensor. Doing this could cause themoisture sensor to malfunction.3-12
