Cleaning the MirrorWhen cleaning the mirror, use a paper towel or similarmaterial dampened with glass cleaner. Do not sprayglass cleaner directly on the mirror as that may causethe liquid cleaner to enter the mirror housing.Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirrorwith OnStar ® and CompassYour vehicle may have an automatic dimming rearviewmirror with a compass display. The mirror alsocontains OnStar® controls. For more information seeOnStar® System on page 2-46.The automatic dimming feature functions the same asthat of the automatic dimming rearview mirror without acompass. See Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirrorwith OnStar® on page 2-41.The mirror also includes an eight-point compass displayin the upper right corner of the mirror face. When on,the compass automatically calibrates as the vehicleis driven.Mirror OperationO(On/Off): Press and hold the button, located on thelower left side of the mirror face, for about threeseconds to turn the automatic dimming feature on or off.The indicator light will illuminate when this feature isactive. The automatic dimming feature is activeeach time the vehicle is started.Compass OperationPress the on/off button once to turn the compass onor off.When the ignition and the compass feature are on, thecompass will show two character boxes for abouttwo seconds. After two seconds, the mirror will displaythe compass heading.Compass CalibrationIf after two seconds, the display does not show acompass heading (for example, N for North), there maybe a strong magnetic field interfering with the compass.Such interference may be caused by a magnetic antennamount, magnetic note pad holder or a similar magneticitem. If the letter C should ever appear in the compasswindow, the compass may need calibration.The mirror can be calibrated by driving the vehicle incircles at 5 mph (8 km/h) or less until the display reads adirection.2-42
