6F8C0845 11Chapter 1 Overview ofthe Devicenet Module1.1 Features and System Configuration Examples of theDeviceNet Module (DN611)This section describes the features and system configuration examples of the DeviceNetmodule (DN611) for the controller model 2000 of the Integrated Controller V Series. TheDN611 is an interface module for connecting the DeviceNet, which is a device levelnetwork for FA (factory automation), to the controller model 2000.Hereafter, the sequence controller model 2000 of the Integrated Controller V Series iscalled the S controller and the DeviceNet module for the model 2000, the DN611.(1) Made to conform to the DeviceNet specificationsDeviceNet is a standardized device level network for factory automation (FA),developed by RockWell Automation Co. in the U.S.A. A nonprofit organization, called ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendor Association), now plays the principal role inthe maintenance and extension of the DeviceNet specifications and in introducingcompatible products. The DN611, functioning as the master device (master station) on a DeviceNet,performs data input/output between itself and the DeviceNet slave devices (slavestations), which are developed by various manufacturers (vendors) at home andabroad and conform with the DeviceNet specifications, thus serving as an interfacebetween the S controller and the slave devices.(2) Input/Output Data Size, Number of Connecting Slave Devices, Communication Rateand Network LengthOne DeviceNet network can be connected to the DN611. The size of input/output data between the DN611 and connected slave devices is 128 words(input) and 128 words (output) (16 points per word). Unless the total count ofinput/output data to and from the connected slave devices exceeds 128 words, data can be input and output to and from up to 63 slave devices. (Since theamount of data output to a slave device and the amount of data input from aslave device vary depending on the slave device, check the slave devicespecifications.)The definition of input/output data treated in this manual is shown in the figurebelow.Figure 1-1 Definition of Input/Output DataAny of three communication rates, 500 kbps, 250 kbps and 125kbps, can be selected. The maximum network length varies depending on the communication rate (l00 m for500 kbps, 250 m for 250 kbps, and 500 m for 125 kbps). The details are explained in Section 1.2 Network Configuration of DeviceNet.Output data: S controller DN611 Slave deviceInput data: S controller DN611 Slave device
