Basic FeatureOperationMaking CallsThis section explains the basic methods for making acall.Making a Call1. In stand-by mode (i.e., when you have no activecalls), go off-hook.2. Enter the number you want to call.The number you are dialling is displayed in theDial window. When you finish dialling, the call willbe connected.3. To end the call, go on-hook.Pre-diallingIn stand-by mode (i.e., when you have no active calls),you can start dialling while still on-hook. The Dialwindow will appear.• To delete a number you entered, press (LEFT).• To clear the entire number, press(TRANSFER) or (HOLD).• To connect the call, go off-hook or press .Quick DiallingIf a number has been programmed in the PBX as aQuick Dial number, you can dial that number by goingoff-hook and entering the programmed number.For details, consult your administrator.Hot LineYou can configure the phone to automatically dial anumber immediately when you go off-hook. See "HotLine (Page 106)".Speed DiallingYou can dial a number that is registered in the systemspeed dial directory or registered in your personalspeed dial directory. For details, see "System SpeedDialling (Page 110)" and "Personal Speed Dialling(Page 108)".For details about registering numbers in the systemspeed dial directory, see "Managing the PBX’s SystemSpeed Dial Entries (Page 118)".Operator CallYou can call an extension or a group assigned as theoperator. See "Operator Call (Page 108)".Usage tips• After you dial, the Calls screen appears. For details,see "Calls Screen (Page 39)".Note• If you want to dial a phone number on theContacts screen using the dial keys, press, and then enter the phone number. Whenyou finish dialling, go off-hook or pressto connect the call.Calling an Outside PartyYou have to seize an outside line before dialling anoutside phone number. The KX-NT400 can seize anoutside line automatically for certain calls.Automatic seizingThe KX-NT400 can seize an outside line automaticallywhen a call is made with one of the following operations:• Pre-dialling (Page 65)• Making a Call from the Contact List (Page 66)• Dialling by Using Call Logs (Page 68)• Redialling the Last Number You Dialled (LastNumber Redial) (Page 69)• One-touch Dialling (Page 70)• Making Calls from the Portal (Page 88)Manual seizingYou have to seize an outside line manually when youdirectly enter a phone number with dial keys.1. Go off-hook.2. Press / or an L-CO button.An idle outside line will be seized.3. Enter a phone number with dial keys.Note• The default automatic line access number( / ) varies depending on country/area.• You can create an L-CO button on theKX-NT400.
