13REFERENCEMaximum Speed& Altitude FieldsMaximum Speed FieldTo obtain the most accurate reading of your maxi-mum speed, keep in mind that due to the sensitivity ofthe GPS 12CX’s antenna, your maximum speed valuemay include the effects of rapid movement, such asswinging your arm while holding the unit.To reset the maximum speed field:1. Highlight the ‘MXSPD’ field, and pressENTER.2. PressENTER to confirm the ‘RESET?’ prompt.Altitude FieldWhen the GPS 12CX is acquiring satellites or navi-gating in the 2D mode, the last known altitude is usedto compute your position. You may also manually en-ter your altitude for greater accuracy. In cases wherethe GPS 12CX has 2D coverage, entering your approxi-mate altitude will enable the receiver to determine amore accurate position fix.To enter an altitude:1. Highlight the ‘ALT’ field, and pressENTER.2. Enter a value, and pressENTER.Position FieldThe GPS 12CX displays the current GPS location indegrees-minutes -decimal minutes (default) or a vari-ety of user selectable position formats.
