53Adjusting the FocusAbout the autofocus (AF) functions:• You can change some aspects of the autofocus function with the following settings.- > [v Camera Setup] > [AF Speed] to set the AF speed (the speed at which the focus isadjusted) to one of 3 levels.- > [v Camera Setup] > [AF Response] to set the responsiveness of the autofocus function toone of 3 levels.• When recording in bright surroundings, the camcorder closes down the aperture. This may cause the pictureto appear blurred and is more noticeable toward the wide angle end of the zoom range. In such case, selectthe “ or n shooting mode, apply the ND filter (A 70) and adjust the aperture.• Autofocus is not available in the following cases:- When > [v Camera Setup] > [Conversion Lens] is set to an option other than [j Off].- When infrared recording is activated.• Autofocus takes slightly longer to focus when the frame rate is set to 29.97P or 23.98P than when it is 59.94P.• When recording under dark conditions, the focusing range narrows and the picture may appear blurred.• While using autofocus, you can turn the focus/zoom ring to focus manually. When you stop turning the ring,the camcorder returns to autofocus. This is useful in situations such as when focusing on a subject on theother side of a window.• When the shooting mode is set to [T Fireworks], the focus will be set to and cannot be changed.• Autofocus may not work well on the following subjects or in the following cases. In such case, focus manually.- When [FUNC] > [Looks] is set to [ Wide DR].- When subjects at different distances appear in the picture.Face Detection & TrackingWhen face detection & tracking is activated, the camcorder will detect thesubject’s face and automatically adjust the focus1 and exposure 2 . When thereare a number of people in the picture, one person will be determined to bethe main subject but you have the option to select a different person as themain subject (you must use the touch screen to select the subject). Thecamcorder will keep tracking the main subject even when it moves.1 Only in AF mode. In MF mode you can use the focus guide (A 49) to help you focus thesubject manually.2 The exposure is not adjusted when the shooting mode is set to [K Snow], [L Beach],[M Sunset] or [S Spotlight].* In mode, face detection & tracking is always activated and cannot be turned off. Start the procedure from step 2.1 Activate face detection & tracking.> [v # Camera Setup] > [Face Detection & Tracking] > [i On}] > [X]• } will appear on the left of the screen.2 Point the camcorder at the subject.• All detected faces will have a face detection frame. The main subject will be indicated with a face detectionframe with small arrows (white in AF mode, gray in MF mode).Operating modes:- Reflective surfaces- Subjects with low contrast or without vertical lines- Fast moving subjects- Through dirty or wet windows- Night scenes- Subjects with a repetitive patternMain subject*
