43When you use the IS lens’ built-in Image Stabilizer, camera shake iscorrected to obtain a sharper shot. The procedure explained here isbased on the EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens as an example.* IS stands for Image Stabilizer.1 Set the IS switch to <1>.Also set the camera’s power switch to<1>.2 Press the shutter button halfway.X The Image Stabilizer will operate.3 Take the picture. When the picture looks steady in theviewfinder, press the shutter buttoncompletely to take the picture.Lens Image StabilizerThe Image Stabilizer cannot correct “subject blur”, when the subjectmoves at the time of exposure. For bulb exposures, set the IS switch to <2>. If <1> is set, ImageStabilizer misoperation may occur. The Image Stabilizer may not be effective for excessive shaking such ason a rocking boat. The Image Stabilizer can operate with the lens focus mode switch set toeither <AF> or <MF>.When using a tripod, you can still shoot with the IS switch set to <1>with no problem. However, to save battery power, setting the IS switch to<2> is recommended. The Image Stabilizer is effective even when the camera is mounted on amonopod. Some IS lenses enable you to switch the IS mode manually to suit theshooting conditions. However, the following lenses switch the IS modeautomatically:• EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM • EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM• EF-S18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 ISCOPY
