30 • VideoSelecting the Video Quality(Recording Mode)The camcorder offers 3 recordingmodes. Changing the recording modewill change the recording time availableon the disc. Select XP mode for bettermovie quality; select LP mode for longerrecording times.The following table gives approximaterecording times with a brand new DVDdisc (on a single recording side). Default value[ STANDARD PLAY 6 Mbps]Desired recording modeNOTES• In LP mode, recordings are more liable tobe affected by imperfections of the discused or recording conditions and youmay experience some anomalies (blockyvideo artifacts, banding, skipping audio,etc.) during playback. We recommendusing XP or SP mode for importantrecordings.• The camcorder uses a variable bit rate(VBR) to encode video so the actualrecording times will vary depending onthe content of the scenes.Changing the Aspect Ratio of theRecordings (Widescreen / 4:3)The default aspect ratio of movies is16:9 (widescreen). Follow the procedurebelow to change it to 4:3.[ MENU][ CAMERA SETUP][WIDESCREEN] [ OFF]NOTES• Playing back a widescreen recording:TV sets compatible with the Video ID-1system will switch automatically to 16:9mode.
