See DIC Warnings and Messageson page 3-56 for more information.{ CAUTION:If a fire starts while you are refueling, do notremove the nozzle. Shut off the flow of fuelby shutting off the pump or by notifying thestation attendant. Leave the area immediately.Notice: If you need a new fuel cap, be sure to getthe right type. Your dealer/retailer can get onefor you. If you get the wrong type, it may not fitproperly. This may cause your malfunction indicatorlamp to light and may damage your fuel tank andemissions system. See Malfunction Indicator Lampon page 3-41.Filling a Portable Fuel Container{ CAUTION:Never fill a portable fuel container while it is inyour vehicle. Static electricity discharge fromthe container can ignite the fuel vapor. You canbe badly burned and your vehicle damaged ifthis occurs. To help avoid injury to you andothers:• Dispense fuel only into approvedcontainers.• Do not fill a container while it is inside avehicle, in a vehicle’s trunk, pickup bed,or on any surface other than the ground.• Bring the fill nozzle in contact with theinside of the fill opening before operatingthe nozzle. Contact should be maintaineduntil the filling is complete.• Do not smoke while pumping fuel.• Do not use a cellular phone whilepumping fuel.5-11
