4 – Managing SwitchesConfiguring Port Threshold Alarms4-14 59097-02 BS4.3Configuring Port Threshold AlarmsYou can configure the switch to generate alarms for selected events. Configuringan alarm involves choosing an event type, rising and falling triggers, a samplewindow, and finally enabling or disabling the alarm. To configure port thresholdalarms, do the following:1. In the faceplate display, open the Switch menu and select Port ThresholdAlarm Configuration. The Port Threshold Alarm Configuration dialogshown in Figure 4-7 prompts you to enable or disable all alarms, select anevent, set triggers, set a sample window and enable or disable an individualalarm.Figure 4-7. Port Threshold Alarm Configuration Dialog2. Check the Enable All Port Threshold Alarms check box to enablemonitoring for all the individual alarm types that are enabled. The Enable AllPort Threshold Alarms check box is the master control for the individualalarms. For example, the switch will monitor CRC errors only if both theCRC Error Monitoring box and the Enable All Port Threshold Alarmscheck box are checked.3. Select an event type from the Port Threshold Alarm pull-down menu.Choose from the following options: CRC error monitoring Decode error monitoring ISL monitoring Login monitoring Logout monitoring Loss of signal monitoring4. Check the Enable box to make the alarm eligible for use.
